DUI Arrest

1100 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

January 2, 2024 – 8:05PM

Officers responded to Murphy’s gas station in reference to an individual who had gotten out of their car

after driving and was acting suspicious in the parking lot. After further investigation Angela Penn, 47, of

Bedford was taken into custody and transported to the magistrate where warrants for possession of a

schedule 1 or 2 substance and driving under the influence were obtained. (Incident #2400041)


Fraud

125 W Main St

January 3, 2024 – 8:25AM

Officers responded to Atlantic Union Bank in reference to a forged check. The Patrol Division is

investigating. (Incident #2400046)


Public Intoxication

1128 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

January 5, 2024 – 4:31PM

Officers responded for the report of a subject lying down on the sidewalk by the entrance of the Dollar

Tree. When officers made contact with the subject, it was determined that they were intoxicated. Ryan

Jackson, 46, of Bedford was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Blue Ridge

Regional Jail where a charge was obtained against him for public intoxication. (Incident #2400108)


Public Intoxication

700+ Baltimore Ave

January 6, 2024 – 10:44PM

Officers were attempting to serve a summons for an issue related to animal control at a residence near

the 700 block of Baltimore Avenue. During the service, Brandon Dodson, 39, of Bedford was placed

under arrest for public intoxication. He was transported to the magistrate where a charge for public

intoxication was obtained. He was held until sober. (Incident #2400127)


Concealment of Merchandise

212 E Washington St

January 7, 2024 – 6:34PM

Officers responded to Elba’s Butcher Shoppe on Washington Street in reference to a possible larceny

with the offender still on scene. Officers made contact with a male who had been seen by employees

concealing a beer can in his pocket. Officers explained that although the male did not pass the registers

and commit a larceny, he could still be charged with concealment of merchandise. Elba’s declined to

press charges at this time. (Incident #2400143)


Fraud

1200+ Rock Castle Rd

January 7, 2024 – 6:34PM

Officers spoke with an individual in reference to a mobile home they had purchased that was now

missing. The complainant advised they had purchased a mobile home that was being stored on Rock

Castle Road. When the individual was ready to pick up the mobile home they were no longer able to get

in contact with the seller. The mobile home was also no longer at the location it was being stored.

Officers obtained a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses on Robert Shepherd, 49, of Bedford.

Counterfeiting

1087 Moneta Rd

January 11, 2024 – 5:00PM

Officers responded to the Spirit Mart on Moneta Road in reference to a counterfeit bill. The Patrol

Division is investigating. (Incident #2400178)


Public Intoxication

511 E Main St

January 13, 2024 – 1:17AM

Officers responded to 511 East Main Street in reference to a subject who was yelling and cursing at this

abandoned business. When officers made contact with the subject, it was determined that they were

intoxicated. Danney Karnes, 36, of Bedford was placed under arrest for public intoxication and taken

before the magistrate. He was held until sober. (Incident #2400215)


Fraud

500+ Cook St

January 13, 2024 – 3:52PM

Officers spoke to an individual that advised they had been the victim of a fraud. The victim received an

email that they believed was from Bank of America. The email advised them that they had been

scammed and told them to call the number listed in the email to receive help with getting their money

back. When the caller did this, money was taken from her account. The Patrol Division is investigating.

DUI Arrest

1100 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

January 14, 2024 – 11:47PM

Officers were patrolling 460 eastbound when they observed a traffic violation and suspicious driving

behavior that resulted in a traffic stop. Lauren Means, 34, of Lynchburg was subsequently taken into

custody and transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where a warrant for driving under the influence

was obtained against her. She was held on a secured bond. (Incident #2400262)


Burglary

700+ Peaks St

January 16, 2024 – 9:00AM

Officers responded to the 700 block of Peaks Street for the report of a larceny from an unoccupied

house. The caller advised officers that multiple items were taken. The Patrol Division is investigating.

Inadequate Care of Animal

500+ Blue Ridge Ave

January 15, 2024 – 9:00AM

Officers responded to the 500 block of Blue Ridge Avenue for reports of a dog that had been barking for

several hours. Officers found a dog chained up outside that had no food, water, or appropriate housing.

Joshua McGhee, 23, of Bedford was issued a summons for inadequate care of a companion animal.

Destruction of Property

January 16, 2024 – 8:13AM

Officers responded to the 800 block of Burks Hill Road in reference to property damage of the caller’s

vehicle. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #2400277)


Warrant Service

1126 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

January 16, 2024 – 10:23PM

Officers were conducting proactive patrol at Walmart when they recognized a subject known from

previous encounters. They checked his wanted status with dispatch and confirmed that the subject had

an active capias. Jared Noel, 25, of Thaxton was taken into custody and transported to the jail where he

was held without bond. (Incident #2400287)


Attempted Fraud

Woodcreek Rd

January 20, 2024 – 9:54AM

Officers spoke to a caller in reference to a spam call they received. The caller explained that a male

subject called them and claimed that their child had been arrested and they would need to post a bond

so that they could be released. The victim was reluctant to believe the subject and instead hung up the

phone and called their daughter who confirmed that they were not arrested. The victim did not provide

any financial or personal information to the subject. (Incident #2400376)


Counterfeiting

1202 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

January 20, 2024 – 5:00PM

Officers responded to the Arby’s on East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike in reference to a counterfeit bill. The

Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #2400178)


Disorderly Conduct

1602 Longwood Ave

January 21, 2024 – 7:00AM

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Longwood Avenue in reference to a male threatening

employees of the Stop & Go gas station. The subject was handcuffed and brought inside the building

due to the inclement weather. The officers gave the subject a phone to use to call for a ride but he

continued to cause a commotion and threatened officers on scene. As a result, Brandon Stanley, 29, of

Bedford was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where a warrant was obtained against him for

disorderly conduct, where he was held without bond. (Incident #2400389)


Destruction of Property

1128 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

January 22, 2024 – 12:08PM

Officers responded to the parking lot of the Bedford Walmart in reference to a property damage. The

caller’s tires on their vehicle had been slashed. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #2400409)


Burglary

1000+ Chantilly Ln

January 23, 2024 – 1:55PM

Officers responded to the 1000 block of Chantilly Ln for the report of a larceny from an unoccupied

dwelling. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #2400444)


Fraud

1600+ Longwood Ave

January 26, 2024 – 1:55PM

Officers spoke with a caller who advised they had been a victim of credit card fraud. The caller told

officers that someone used their credit card at the Shell Station on Longwood Avenue. They advised

they must have dropped their card. Officers viewed video footage from the Shell Station and got a

description of the vehicle and suspect. While patrolling later in the day, officers located the vehicle seen

in the video footage and conducted a traffic stop. Further investigation revealed Shanice Johnson, 31, of

Bedford to be the suspect. Dispatch also advised that her license was revoked and she had an active

warrant for petit larceny. The warrant was served and officers issued her a summons for driving

revoked. Later, officers obtained warrants on Ms. Johnson for credit card fraud and credit card theft.

She was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail and held on a secured bond. (Incident #2400491)


Extortion/Blackmail

1000+ Longwood Ave

January 27, 2024 – 12:20AM

Officers took a report from a victim who reported they were being blackmailed through social media by

a suspect threatening to release compromising photos if money was not paid to them. The Patrol

Division is investigating. (Incident #2400498)


Counterfeiting

999 Independence Blvd

January 29, 2024 – 7:30PM

Officers responded to the Bedford Sonic in reference to a counterfeit bill. The Patrol Division is

investigating. (Incident #2400538)
