Vehicle Pursuit
100+ Dickerson Mill Rd
March 3, 2024 – 12:25AM
Officers were patrolling the 800 block of Burks Hill Road when they observed suspicious driving behavior
that resulted in officers attempting a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop. Officers initiated a brief
pursuit however discontinued it after losing sight of the vehicle. During the pursuit, the driver struck
another driver’s vehicle. Warrants were later issued against William Witt, 41 of Bedford for reckless
driving, felony eluding, failing to stop at the scene of a crash with injury, property damage, and assault.
Witt was subsequently arrested by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. (Incident #2401279)

March 2, 2024 – 7:59PM
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Roundtree Drive in reference to a disturbance. Samuel Mason,
48, of Bedford was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail
where a charge of possession of controlled substances was obtained against him. (Incident #2401280)

600+ Jeter St
March 4, 2024 – 5:45PM
Officers responded to the 600 block of Jeter Street for the report of a property damage. There was
damage to a window pane in the caller’s front door and the door knob was missing. The Patrol Division

Narcotics Arrest
900+ Blue Ridge Ave
March 5, 2024 – 1:47AM
Officers were patrolling the 900 block of Blue Ridge Avenue when they observed an equipment violation
that resulted in a traffic stop. Joseph Lynch, 41, of Montvale was later taken into custody and
transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. Two counts of possession of controlled substances were

March 6, 2024 – 2:34PM
Officers were patrolling the area of Walmart on East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike when they observed a
driver acting suspiciously. Angela Penn, 47, of Bedford was subsequently taken into custody and
transported to the Magistrate where a charge of possession of controlled substances was obtained
against her. She was held without bond. (Incident #2401374)

Officers were in the area of the Shell station on Burks Hill Road when they observed a vehicle parked at
the gas pumps for an extended period of time. The driver was acting suspiciously. Officers approached
the vehicle to check on the driver and later located suspected narcotics. The Patrol Division is

March 7, 2024 – 4:00PM
Officers were patrolling the 900 block of Blue Ridge Avenue when they observed a vehicle with an
equipment violation. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and later located suspected
narcotics. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #2401387)
DUI Arrest
590 Grove St
March 9, 2024 – 7:30AM
Officers responded to 590 Grove Street for the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Officers
observed a vehicle that had struck the wall on the side of the road and had heavy front-end damage.
The driver was not located with the vehicle. Officers were later able to locate the suspected driver,
Charles Brown, 35, of Bedford. Brown was transported to the Magistrate where a charge for driving
under the influence was obtained against him. (Incident #2401419)

Detectives were made aware of a potential case of elder exploitation. The Detective Bureau is

Officers responded to the 700 block of Burks Hill Road for the report of a garbage truck driver getting hit

Officers were made aware of a potential fraud. The caller advised they paid a contractor to complete
renovations on their residence and they have since been unable to get in contact with the contractor.

Officers were patrolling the 2000 block of East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike when they observed a vehicle

Officers were in the area of Independence Boulevard and Forest Road when they observed a traffic
violation and suspicious driving behavior that resulted in a traffic stop. Dejuan Steptoe, 40, of Bedford
was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where warrants for
driving under the influence and eluding were obtained against her. She was held until sober but to be
released on an unsecured bond. (Incident #2401692)

Officers responded to the 1000 block of Meadowbrook Drive for the report of a property damage. The
individual making the report advised their rear window was broken. The Patrol Division is investigating.

Officers responded to 691 Pinecrest Avenue for the report of a male subject who was sleeping in the
breezeway. Officers made contact with the subject who was identified as Earl Overstreet, 61, of
Thaxton. Overstreet was taken into custody for public intoxication. He was transported to the Blue
Ridge Regional Jail where he was held without bond. (Incident #2401740)

Officers responded to Lowe’s for the report of a subject that had been seen shoplifting days prior on
their video footage. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #2401836)
Animal Cruelty
407 N Bridge St
March 29, 2024 – 1:39PM
Officers responded to the BP gas station on North Bridge Street for the report of a dog that was tied to a
fence on the property. It was reported that the dog had been there for several hours with no food,
water, or shelter. After further investigation, Jermaine Linton, 40, of Bedford was charged with animal
abandonment and was also issued three summonses for inadequate care. Linton was transported to the
Blue Ridge Regional Jail where he was held without bond. (Incident #2401854)

Dr MLK Jr Bypass
March 30, 2024 – 3:11PM
Officers were in the area of Dr. MLK Jr. Bypass when they observed a vehicle driving under the speed
limit. Officers ran the tag on the vehicle and it returned to a different vehicle. A traffic stop was
conducted and possible narcotics were located. (Incident #2401876)
