Public Intoxication

800+ Burks Hill Rd

May 1st, 2025 – 8:12 AM

Officers responded to the 800 block of Burks Hill Road for a report of a suspicious male punching a sign.

Troy Dowdy, 57, of Bedford, was later transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where officers

obtained and served a warrant for public intoxication. (Incident #PD25-00435)


DUI Arrest

1126 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

May 1st, 2025 – 2:02 PM

Officers were in the Walmart parking lot when they observed a female subject in the driver’s seat of a

vehicle with her head tilted and eyes closed. Mary Swedberg, 59, of Bedford, was later placed under

arrest for DUI. She was transported to the magistrate where the warrant was obtained and served. She

was set to have a bond hearing when sober. (Incident #PD25-00440)


Possible Narcotics

751 Blue Ridge Ave

May 1st, 2025 – 7:08 PM

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a loud exhaust at 594 Blue Ridge Avenue. During the

stop, officers located what they believed to be a controlled substance. The Patrol Division is

investigating. (Incident #PD25-00442)


Warrant Service

1126 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

May 2nd, 2025 – 2:15 AM

Officers were in the area of Walmart when they observed what appeared to be an active disturbance in

the parking lot. Officers made contact with the individuals involved and learned one subject had a

probation violation warrant out of Lynchburg. Aaron Retz, 26, of Lynchburg, was transported to the

magistrate’s office where he was served the warrant. (Incident #PD25-00443)


Trespassing

691 Pinecrest Ave

May 2nd, 2025 – 9:04 PM

Officers responded to Pinecrest Apartments for a report of a subject who had previously been barred

from the property. The apartment manager advised they would like the individual charged with

trespassing. Officers relocated to the magistrate’s office where they obtained a trespassing warrant.

Officers later located Earl Overstreet, 62, of Bedford, and served the pending warrant. (Incident #PD25-

00448)


Larceny

215 E Main St

May 6th, 2025 – 1:20 PM

Officers spoke with a walk-in complainant at the police department regarding a larceny. The individual

advised they were at Walmart a few days prior and believe $200 in cash was taken from their purse

while in the store. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #PD25-00462)


Fraud

700+ Blue Ridge Ave

May 6th, 2025 – 12:30 PM

Officers spoke with a complainant at the police department who believed they were the victim of a

scam. The individual stated they purchased a vehicle listed on Facebook Marketplace and have yet to

receive the vehicle. They advised payment was made using Apple iTunes gift cards. A brief investigation

confirmed that the complainant was in fact scammed. (Incident #PD25-00463)


Possible Narcotics

1500+ Longwood Ave

May 6th, 2025 – 6:42 PM

Officers responded to the Dollar General on Longwood Avenue for a report of a larceny in progress.

Officers made contact with the subjects outside the store and later located suspected narcotics. The

Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #PD25-00465)


Larceny

939 Burks Hill Rd

May 7th, 2025 – 2:41 PM

Officers spoke with a subject regarding a larceny. The individual advised they were charging their phone

at Liberty Lake Park and walked to the baseball field, leaving the phone unattended. When they

returned, the phone was gone. (Incident #PD25-00469)


Public Intoxication

Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass

May 9th, 2025 – 10:01 AM

Officers responded to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass for a report of a male subject lying on

the side of Route 460. Roger Wright, 46, of Bedford, was placed under arrest for public intoxication. He

was transported to the magistrate’s office and set to be held until sober. (Incident #PD25-00478)


DUI Arrest

1395 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

May 9th, 2025 – 10:37 PM

Officers observed a vehicle traveling 67 MPH in a 50 MPH zone and initiated a traffic stop. Jennifer

Rupe, 44, of Lynchburg, was arrested for DUI. She was transported to the magistrate’s office, where a

warrant for DUI (second conviction within 5 years) was obtained and served. She was set to have a bond

hearing when sober. (Incident #PD25-00482)


DUI Arrest

E Crest Dr / E Main St

May 10th, 2025 – 1:15 AM

Officers observed suspicious driving behavior and initiated a traffic stop. Ashley Andrews, 39, of

Bedford, was transported to the magistrate, where officers obtained warrants for DUI and possession of

a Schedule I or II controlled substance. (Incident #PD25-00483)


Warrant Service

875 Blue Ridge Ave

May 10th, 2025 – 11:50 PM

Officers conducted a traffic stop at 875 Blue Ridge Avenue for failure to maintain lane. The driver, Tyrell

Smith, 20, of Rustburg, had an active warrant out of Lynchburg. He was transported to the magistrate

and held without bond. (Incident #PD25-00486)


DUI Arrest

862 Burks Hill Rd

May 14th, 2025 – 11:29 PM

Officers observed suspicious driving behavior, resulting in a traffic stop. Stacey Brown, 61, of Vinton,

was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where warrants for DUI and distribution of a controlled

substance were obtained. She was released on her own recognizance. (Incident #PD25-00502)


Warrant Service

720 Blue Ridge Ave

May 16th, 2025 – 9:30 AM

Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Blue Ridge Avenue for a disturbance. One subject involved

was found to have a capias out of Lynchburg. Kaziwa Osman, 33, of Bedford, was transported to the

magistrate’s office, served the capias, and released on an unsecured bond. (Incident #PD25-00511)


Larceny

942 Blue Ridge Ave

May 16th, 2025 – 11:59 AM

Officers were dispatched to the Westside Food Mart on Blue Ridge Avenue for a report of a purse stolen

from a vehicle in the parking lot. The Patrol Division is investigating. (Incident #PD25-00512)


DUI Arrest

1001 Independence Blvd

May 19th, 2025 – 10:28 PM

Officers observed a vehicle fail to stop at two stop signs. A traffic stop was initiated. Joseph Peters, 37,

of Indiana, was placed under arrest for DUI. Officers transported him to the magistrate’s office where a

felony DUI warrant (third conviction within 10 years) was obtained. He was held without bond. (Incident

#PD25-00523)


Public Intoxication

1602 Forest Rd

May 20th, 2025 – 10:15 PM

Officers responded to Burger King on Longwood Avenue for a report of a male subject threatening a

manager with a firearm. Durell Brown, 37, of Bedford, was arrested for public intoxication and

transported to the magistrate’s office, where he was set to be held until sober. (Incident #PD25-00530)


DUI Arrest

1212 E Main St

May 21st, 2025 – 10:25 AM

While patrolling the intersection of East Main Street and Independence Boulevard, officers observed a

vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the road, blocking oncoming traffic. Sanford Walker, 75, of

Moneta, was arrested for DUI and held until sober. (Incident #PD25-00533)


DUI Arrest

1001 Independence Blvd

May 21st, 2025 – 11:22 PM

Officers responded to Taco Bell’s drive-through for a report of a suspicious female at the window. Skylar

Rife, 23, of Bedford, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and set to be released once sober.

DUI Arrest

1189 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

May 23rd, 2025 – 8:10 PM

Officers responded to a vehicle crash on Lynchburg Salem Turnpike. After a brief investigation, Iziah

Logan, 38, of Roanoke, was transported to the Lynchburg Magistrate due to a system outage. Officers

obtained warrants for DUI, driving on a suspended license, expired state inspection, failure to obtain

registration, following too closely, and no insurance. (Incident #PD25-00543)


Fraud

1820 E Lynchburg Salem Tpke

May 26th, 2025 – 2:31 PM

Officers spoke with a victim regarding fraudulent charges on their debit card. The Patrol Division is

investigating. (Incident #PD25-00551)


Destruction of Property

720 Blue Ridge Ave

May 28th, 2025 – 5:00 PM

Officers spoke with a subject who reported their vehicle had been keyed. The Patrol Division is

investigating. (Incident #PD25-00559)


Possible Narcotics

South St / E King St

May 29th, 2025 – 2:35 PM

While patrolling the area of South Street and East King Street, officers observed a subject known to

them from prior encounters. Officers were aware the subject had active possession warrants. During a

search at the time of arrest, officers located additional suspected narcotics. The Patrol Division is

investigating. (Incident #PD25-00564)


Larceny

1000+ Elm St

May 25th, 2025 – 4:00 PM

Officers responded to the 1000 block of Elm Street for a larceny report. The complainant advised their

son’s bicycle had been stolen weeks earlier and was recently located in another yard. The Patrol Division

is investigating. (Incident #PD25-00572)
